The next Cricket World Cup is scheduled for 2027 and will be hosted by South Africa, Namibiaand Zimbabwe. It is a monumental event in the global cricket calendar.

The last World Cup was held in 2023 in India, where Australia became champions after defeating host nation India in the final. This was Australia’s sixth World Cup victory in history. The tournament will be remembered for the remarkable dominance of India’s Virat Kohli, but despite his stunning performance, India escaped the ultimate prize, leaving their dream of a third World Cup title unfulfilled.

In 2027, the battle for the World Cup title will take place again, with South Africa and Zimbabwe hosting the World Cup for the second time – the last time was in 2003. This time, however, a third country is joining as a co-host, Namibia, which will host World Cup matches for the first time in history.

In total, 14 nations will take part in the tournament, two of which are already confirmed, with hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe having secured their places. Four teams will qualify through the World Cup qualifiers, while the remaining eight will receive their places based on ranking. This is an increase of four teams compared to the 2023 World Cup, reflecting the growing popularity of the sport and its growing audience. In the 2023 World Cup, a total of 1.25 million spectators watched the matches in person throughout the tournament.

Sri Lanka finished ninth in the last World Cup, its worst ranking in many years. The country won its only World Cup title in 1996 and has since reached the final twice more. They lost to Australia in 2007 and India appeared stronger in the final in 2011.
